Xtra Dog offers a range of products suitable for dog walking at night Our special edition fllece harnesses made with high-visibility 3m buynow tape have proved very popular during the winter months. At present we are unable to source the hi-viz tape that is sewn onto the harnesses locally so we are having it made overseas. We aim to have these back in production with a choice of neon pink, yellow or orange fleece by mid summer. We will also be offering our standard colours with the addition of hi-viz tape for night-time walks. If you would like to be informed when these harnesses are available please drop us an email to info@xtradog.com

When walking a dog on the lead, a harness can prove a beneficial way to stop a dog from pulling. Many dogs pull due to incorrect posture and being off balance and a harness takes pressure off the dog’s neck as the connection to the dog’s harness is closer to the dog’s centre of gravity rather than having the dog only attached at the collar. Many dog trainers and competitors as well as pet owners use and recommend the use of harnesses.

Certain dogs are more receptive to being walked with a two-point contact (the lead attached at one end to the front of the harness, on the point of the breastbone, and the other end on the top of the harness). This method, developed by Tellington TTouch* in t

he USA, is ideal for balancing dogs and influencing their posture to encourage your dog to walk comfortably and slowly on the lead. Few dog harnesses are made with front rings and often they are positioned too low, thus negating the benefits of the two points of contact.

The Xtra Dog harness is designed by Marie Miller, on of the UK's leading dog behaviourist, a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers' UK and the Tellington TTouch Guild. Her designs are inspired by Mel Fishback's harness designs of the 1950s. it has been speciifically designed using either fleece or water-repelling foam to provide maximum comfort along with an effective way to stop dogs from pulling naturally.

Xtra Dog also offer other hi-viz products; the award winning Spiffy Dog Collar with matching lead, is available in hi-viz orange. Endorsed by National Search and Rescue Cantech, this is the perfect collar for night walks

sarda dog

"I am impressed at the construction of the collar and the design of the clip. Any weight on the clip causes the barbs inside it to expand making it more secure rather than likely to fail. The Air Collar dries quickly compared to other rope and webbing collars I have used on my search and rescue dogs and combined with the hi-vis reflective covering it makes the perfect choice for her." James Dunn, chairman NSARDA Cantech

Xtra Dog also offers hi-viz neckerchiefs in pink and yellow and collar lights.

*Tellington TTouch leading exercises enable the dog to overide old patterns of movement and behaviour without the use of fear or force. The ground work improves co-ordination, confidence, focus, self control, balance and co-operation. For more details visit our TTouch pages.
