It is a common myth that dogs do not get cold and do not need to wear coats in the winter. It is true that the long haired breeds like the Siberian husky or the Alaskan malamute are very adapted to living out doors in the cold and surviving an arctic winter. This is not so true about many of our pet breeds who are used to living in centrally heated houses and flats and when they go for a walk in winter conditions they get as much of a shock in the cold as a human does. Most of the short-haired breeds do suffer from the cold. It is often forgotten about, that dogs left for periods of time in a car in winter can sit shivering in the cold.

Another consideration is elderly and arthritic dogs, their circulation is not as good as younger dogs and even amongst breeds that you night not consider needing a coat they might well benefit from a winter coat to keep them snugly warm when outside, or in the car. Also many dogs are regularly groomed in winter; especially dogs that like to compete in the show ring and by doing this their natural fur coats have been removed so they are more prone to cold than dogs that are left to enjoy a long winter coat.

In recent year’s Britain is experiencing colder winters so the need for dog coats is growing. Watch your dog’s behaviour you will know if he or she needs a coat in the cold. Incidentally, even some of the toughest of dogs wear coats and even dog booties, these include search and rescue dogs, police dogs, military dogs, beach patrol dogs and even Iditarod racing dogs and working sheep dogs.

These coats can also be worn along with our fleece dog harnesses. As there is an eye in the top for the top ring of your harness. They are made of non pill polar fleece. They are fully machine-washable; warm, snug and comfortable. Easy fit with adjustable velcro fleece strap. Wrap around collar with adjustable velcro. They all come with black non -pill fleece lining
